Alt Text (Image Alternative Text)
Descriptive text behind an image that helps both screen readers and search engines understand what a picture actually shows.
…Adding descriptive alt text to every product image improves both accessibility and your odds of ranking in image search.…
What it means
Alt text is descriptive text added to an HTML image tag, read aloud by screen readers for visually impaired users and used by search engines to understand and index an image.
Good alt text describes the image plainly and, where relevant, naturally includes a keyword — for example, "red leather office chair with lumbar support" rather than a vague label like "image1".
Improves accessibility
Alt text lets visitors using screen readers understand images they cannot see.
Unlocks image search
Descriptive alt text helps a page surface in Google Image search results.
Adds relevance signals
Search engines cannot "see" a picture, so alt text is their main clue to what it depicts.
DNA's Take: We write alt text for every image on a client site as a standard part of on-page work — a quick win for accessibility and rankings that most sites still get wrong.
