UTM Parameters (Campaign Tracking Tags)

Small tags added to a link that tell your analytics exactly where a visitor came from and why.

4.3 — Campaign Link Tagging

…Every link in this campaign will use consistent UTM parameters, so performance is comparable across email, social, and paid channels.…

What it means

UTM parameters are specific text tags appended to a URL to track traffic sources and campaign performance inside analytics platforms.

A typical URL might tag the source, medium, and campaign name separately — so a click from an email newsletter is reported distinctly from a click on the same link shared in a social post, even though both lead to the same page.

Shows exactly where traffic came from

Without UTMs, most traffic gets lumped into vague catch-all channels in analytics.

Enables fair channel comparison

Consistent tagging lets you compare email, social, and paid performance on equal footing.

Feeds accurate attribution

Clean UTM data is often the foundation an attribution model depends on to work correctly.
